Laptop Information

All SPS students (grades 3-12) will have access to a laptop for school use. Each school has the discretion to allow students to take these computers home.

Central High School students are assigned a laptop to use during school and at home. They are expected utilize this resource in their classes, and should bring their SPS laptop AND charger to and from school with them every day.

Please note the following:

  • Student laptops are fully covered by the district. If a laptop is broken it will be repaired or replaced (students may be held accountable if their laptop is damaged intentionally or due to negligence, but in most cases, they will be eligible for a replacement).
    • It is the student's responsibility to report broken or missing laptops as soon as possible (see procedures here).
  • Laptops are distributed with a case and a charger. These items are the student's responsibility and are not covered by the district. Students are responsible for replacing lost or broken chargers.
    • If the student's charger is lost or broken and they cannot replace it, they should contact the school immediately. The school MAY be able to provide a replacement, or otherwise will work with the student to facilitate a solution.
  • Laptops should be kept charged, and should also be restarted at least once a week to undergo routine maintenance and updates.
  • All students must sign a laptop take home agreement, and all students are responsible for following the policies established in that agreement and the SPS Acceptable Use of Computers Policy.
  • Students should have NO EXPECTATION OF PRIVACY on their SPS laptop, as it is intended to be an educational tool. Laptops may be monitored by teachers, administrators, and other district staff.
  • The district uses web filters and other software as blocking/filtering safeguards required under the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA). Any attempt to bypass these restrictions is a violation of the Code of Conduct and may result in the loss of computer privileges.
